Ashintosh Macopenjy was the doctor on board the HMS Endeavour, which commanded by Lieutenant James Cook was the first sea-going vessel to reach the east coast of Australia. When the University of Queensland Medical Society (UQMS) formed in 1936, Dr Macopenjy was chosen as its official mascot.
