$14000 for Karuna!

Posted on 26 May 2017

We are so very proud of Queensland Medical Orchestra and all our supporters.

Today, Dr Ryan Williams (our Artistic Director), Dr Penny Mainstone (bass clarinettist and palliative care physician), Dr Roger Allison (bass clarinettist and radiation oncologist), Emma Lumsden (4th year medical student, pianist and managing director of Ashintosh Foundation), visited Karuna Hospice Services and presented them with a cheque for $14000. This was money raised from our 'Care to Dance?' concert, in memory of Dr John Roberts whom we lost to pancreatic cancer last year. We are sincerely thankful to our sponsors, musicians, guest performers, Queensland Ballet Academy and everyone in our audience for their support - without whom we would not have been able to raise such a phenomenal amount for Karuna. The funds will ensure that Karuna can continue to provide such an important service to our community.

This was an outcome beyond our expectations, so a very sincere big Thank You to all our supporters.

'Care to Dance?' to support Palliative Care

Posted on 1 March 2017

Our upcoming 'Care to Dance?' concert on Sunday 9th April at the Brisbane City Hall will be performed in support of Palliative Care. Proceeds from our concert will be going to Karuna, a charity that provides palliative care for terminally ill patients and essential support to their families so that they can spend as much time together at home as possible. Karuna provides crucial services and phenomenal support for these patients and their families during a very difficult period of their lives. QMO recently lost one of our members to cancer in 2016 and we are very proud to support such an important charity, who have not only looked after one of our own, but thousands of cancer sufferers around Queensland. 'Care to Dance?' is a befitting event to raise awareness of this essential aspect of cancer treatment.
