A Musical Christmas Festival On Sale Now

Grab your tickets now - Tickets are now on sale for our annual Christmas Concert on Sunday 14th December at 2pm at ERPAC. 

This concert will be full of festive spirit and wonderful music. Some of the highlights include:

- Ave Maria by Schubert

- “For Unto Us A Child Is Born”  from The Messiah by Händel

- A return performance by vocal sensation Dr Wayne Lee

Virtuosis 2025 On Sale Now

Grab your tickets now - ‘ VIRTUOSIS’ - the QMO’s annual mid-year concert will be held on Sunday 13th July at ERPAC, St Laurence’s College (South Brisbane) @ 2pm. This performance is always the highlight of our musical calendar, as we undertake more challenging repertoire from the canon of classical music. Moreover, we are delighted to be featuring the virtuosic talents of some amazing musicians within the QMO Family. We are excited to announce the following repertoire for this concert:

ACT ONE

  • Light Calvary Overture (von Suppe)
  • The Prayer from Jewish Life (Bloch) - soloist Sophie Weisselberg
  • Fanfare from La Peri (Dukas) - Team Brass
  • Violin Concerto 1st movement (Barber) - soloist Nathan Tie
  • Zadok the Priest (Handel) - orchestra + choir
  • Circle of Life (Elton John) - choir + Team Perky

ACT TWO

  • D’Un matin de printemps (Lili Boulanger)
  • Flute Concerto 1st movement (Reinecke) - soloist Rachel Kingswell
  • I Will Follow Him from Sister Act - choir
  • Piano Concerto No. 1 3rd movement (Tchaikovsky) - soloist Ethan Chen
  • Night on Bald Mountain (Mussorgsky arr. Rimsky-Korsakov)
  • Farandole from L’Arlesienne Suite (Bizet) - encore

This is exciting new repertoire which will make for a fantastic concert! Proceeds from this concert will be going to The Ashintosh Foundation, the charity arm of the University of Queensland Medical Society.

2025 6th April 'Vive la France'

Do you hear the people sing? They are performing music from the land of revolution, renaissance and romance! Some of the greatest works in the canon of classical music were written or performed in France. This will be sound of the first concert of 2025 'Vive la France' on Sunday 6th April (2pm) at ERPAC.

We are particularly excited by what we have in store for you on our program, including:

  • Les Miserables
  • Phantom of the Opera
  • ‘Clair de Lune’ from  Suite bergamasque  (Debussy)
  • The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (Dukas)
  • Suite from ‘Carmen’ (Bizet)
  • Danse Macabre (Saint-Saëns)
  • Pie Jesu (Fauré )
  • Pavane (Fauré)
  • Finale from ’The Firebird’ (Stravinsky)
  • La Marseillaise (Berlioz) 

We can't wait to transport you to France, and hope that you will be able to join us for this concert. Proceeds from this event will be going to Palliative Care Queensland, who provide invaluable support to individuals with life-limiting conditions and their loved ones.

Our Virtuosis 2024 has SOLD OUT!

Our Virtuosis 2024 has SOLD OUT!

We are so excited that our upcoming Virtuosis 2024 on Sunday 14th July has sold out. We will be performing as a full orchestra and choir in the state-of-art Talbot Theatre for the first time. 

This concert's repertoire include:

  • Odelette by Saint-Saë ns, performed by soloist Alexandra Barr
  • 1st movement, Bruch Violin Concerto, performed by soloist Dr Tracey Cook
  • 2nd movement, Moszkowski Piano Concerto no. 2., performed by soloist Andrew Ruhs
  • 'Ride of the Valkyries' from 'The Ring Cycle' by Wagner

and more. 

PLUS, we will be joined by the QMC to perform the following:

  • Song of the Spirit from ‘ Symphonic Adiemus’ by Karl Jenkins
  • O Fortuna from ‘Carmina Burana’ by Carl Orff
  • and an arrangement of songs by Adele from her album ’21’, including ‘ Someone Like You’ and ‘Rolling In The Deep’!

Proceeds from this concert will be going to Parkinson’s Queensland, who provide information, support and education for people living with Parkinson’s Disease, their carers, families and the broader community.

What's on the Program for Spring Soiree?

Our Spring Soiree Concert is coming up next Sunday (24th September). This concert will feature some of the most talented members of the Queensland Medical Orchestra, who will be putting on a great afternoon of chamber music. There will be a variety of ensembles, ranging from the classical piano trio, a string quartet to a brass ensemble, flute choir and horn group. The variation is not only in the combination (and number) of instruments, but also in the repertoire performed, covering all musical styles. 

Here's just a taste of what's in store at this exciting event: 

  • Piano Duo - Nikolai Kasputin,  Sinfonietta Op. 49 - I. Overture
  • French Horn Ensemble - Paul Basler, Harambee
  • Flute Choir - W.A. Mozart, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, arr. Jeremy Corcoran 
  • Piano Trio - Felix Mendelssohn, Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor - I. Molto allegro ed agitato
  • Brass Ensemble - Richard Wagner, Ride of the Valkyries, arr Ziek
  • Cello Ensemble - Gabriel Faure, Pavane Op. 50, arr Watkins / Jacob

Plus there will be much more, including a piano sextet, string quartet, a lower brass ensemble.

Venue: Talbot Theatre, Thomas Dixon Centre, 406 Montague Road, West End.

Tickets: $33 General Admission | $28 Concession | $23 Children
